We just had a huge snowstorm with over 2 feet of snow. I had to shovel the driveway for over 6 hours the past few days to clear all of the snow. Shoveling snow is a great and intensive workout. However, my old body was not ready for that much work. Needless to say, my back was feeling the effect of all that labor along with my calves, arms and shoulders. When I came in after a long period of snow shoveling, I had a painful cramp in my calf muscles. I immediately put on Cypress and Lavender which helped reduce the muscle tightness. When I went to bed after the first night I put on my usual back pain oils (Basil, Cypress, Aroma Seiz and Peppermint) and woke up with just some minor aches. I went out again in the morning and finished up the remainder of the driveway as well as a pathway to the middle of the street. I put on all of the oils again the second night and the back ache was gone. I usually have some major back pains after doing that much shoveling; this time with the application of essentail oils, I was able to shovel for a much longer period of time with limited back problems.

Sore knees and muscles from sports activities
It has been a busy week with my two high schoolers. Swim season and Basketball season has started and we are experiencing a lot of sore muscles and other aching body parts. My daughter, the swimmer, immediately comes home from practice and gets some oils to put on her sore muscles. Usually she uses a blend called panaway which helps with muscles soreness. My son had some problems with his knee. I think a lot of his knee pain is growing pains. Our reference book idicated that Spruce, Cypress, and Helichrysum may work on sore bones and joints and so we applied them with some peppermint. After two days of applications, my son said the pain has gone away. It is amazing how these oils are working on the kids and also how they are embracing their useage. They are learning that the body can heal itself with the proper treatment and that you do not need drugs when you are experiencing some pain.
We are still putting Thieves on our feet at night to fight off a lot of germs that are going around. We know a lot of people that have been experiencing a stomach virus. Lets hope that the oils plus good nutrition and rest keeps us well this winter.

Peace and Calming for night time
My youngest son had a hard time falling alseep last night. I got out the essential oil blend Peace & Calming and rubbed it on his feet. He snuggled up with me and went right to sleep. He likes to have oils applied to his feet, and he also likes the citrus aroma of Peace & Calming.
Last week we also applied a lot of Thieves oil blend on our feet before we went to sleep. My oldest son was coming down with a cold, so we used Thieves to help our bodies fight off the germs. It worked wonders as my son no longer has the sniffles and cough and no one else in the family caught the bug.
